Why I Judge A Book Buy It's Cover

So before I start I'm just going to put out there that this is just my own opinion some willagree and some won't and I respect evryones opinion. Also this is just with books I don't judge people or any of that crap.

I'm not really sure when I started byuing books for just thier book cover it must of been a few years ago and as it happens I have only disliked twobooks that I have ve picked up purley for the covers.

What attracts me to a book cover?

• Bright Colours. I love bright colours, they instantly attract my attention. 
• Bold or Hand Written Font.  It makes the book more personal and special in my opinion. 
• A Forest. I am obsessed with forests I really love them and to me it makes the book stand out. 
• Picture. Any sort really. 
• People.  I really like seeing people on the cover of the book I think for me it gives it a certain relatable aspect. 
• Strangeness. I like strange or different covers that aren't exactly 'normal' it makes them feel special and origanal and makes me feel happy. 
• Angel Wings/Feathers. They are two things that triggers emotions when I see them on a cover and then I can't resist buying the book. 

These points have at some point in my life made me buy a book without reading about the book at all. I think not finding out about the actual book gives a certain mystery and excitement to when you start reading a book and slowly figure out what the book is about.

Also I feel if a cover is great it shows how much the author is proud of thier own book and actually believes in the book.  Like the amazing Jacqueline Wilsin who has the illustrator Nick Sharett designs the cover of her books,he has been creating covers for JQ for years now and I have loved her book and also the designs for so long now. 

So that is why I jude a book by a cover.

Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella

Just a disclaimer,  this book is based on the subject mental health so could be a sore subject for some. 

I really loved this book it was a easy to follow but also jumped straight into the storyline. 

I enjoyed each charecters personalities in the book and thought it added a diversity within the story. Admittedly there is a perfect amount of comedy toeven out Audrey's mental health issues so it didn't make me feel down or upset. 

The book is about Audrey, Audrey got bullied at school to the point where a group of girls got excluded and Audrey had to be taken out of the scool and also hospitalized. Audrey has Social Anxiety Disorder,  General Anxiety Disorder  and also Deppresive Episodes. 

Audrey has to struggle the uphill battle of conquering her problems and learn to be happy within herself. Audrey finds this incredibly hard to achieve especially when Linus her brothers friend starts coming over to their house more often. 

I personally think there should be more books signaling mental health problems but also overcoming these issues and becoming happy,  Ihave to admit there has been more books being published around these issues but I am so glad this bookhad been written. 

Really loved this book.

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

After the incredible Red Queen I was skeptical about how Glass Sword will turn out compared to Red Queen. Reading Glass Sword I was pleasantly suprised and happy with how rich and amazing Glass Sword actually was,  the story had some great twist and a pinch of mind blowing throen into the mix. 

The book starts of exactly where Red Queen stopped which I really loved,  they are hurtling away from the war having been mind blown by how evil Maven really was.  The Red Guard have to escape Mavens clasp to find the Newbloods (Half red blood half silver blooded people). 

Mare's running out of time to save as many Newbloods she can find as Maven and his Silver army draw closer capturing Newbloods to be tortoured and tested on.

Gripping read a great follow up to Red Queen really worth the wait.

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda - the Becky Albertalli

So the main reason I got this book was because of the hype that other book enthusiasts intended in the book. So inevitably I was sold.

In general I really liked the book and had a lot of difficulty getting into the book and the storyline took a while to want me to continue on with the book, and but this is the only negative I think I have for this book.

Oh apart from when the pages and words stopped that was saddening.

The book has a great comedy factor all the way through and I really like the way the author kept the charecter and charecters in the book jokey and all so at times light hearted.

The book is about seventeen year old Simon Spier, he has the big secret, he's gay.

Simon tried having girlfriends but it just didn't feel right and especially since Blue a mysterious guy from media caught his attention a few months ago, Blue all he know about Blues identity is that he goes to the same high school as Simon and that he is falling in love with Blue.

The book has some really every day and life problems within the pages and I respect the author greatly for putting these issues onto paper.

Denai Touch by Tiffany Shand

I am so honoured to review this book, I got offered the opportunity by the author to review Denai Touch and I am so lucky to be able to work with Tiffany the author.

The way the author has created this amazing world that is so detailed and real is just incredible. There is a strong mental image throughout the whole book it's like Tiffany has drawn these images and entwined them with the words.

You get entranced in the book pretty quickly when Cate is battling the evils of her world with her brothers and best friend Jade. Cate is deemed to be the next Grand Mistress after her Gran passes away, she will be the most powerful Denai alive. Of course being the next Grand Mistress comes at a price many want Cate dead and will stop at nothing to take her power.

Cate needs Jason more than ever he's her best friend and he is always there when something goes wrong, Jason is so supportive of Cate and they have such a great connection and bond. But will they see it?

I love how you can dip your feet into reality and fiction at the same time, the connection between Jason and Cate is just so overpowering it makes you mentally connected to the both of them begging them to like each other.

The book is so engaging it had my full attention the whole time and around every corner there is something new arising you can barely come up for breath.

When you read the book you become Cate you root for what she believes in and Cate comes alive and I really love to feel like I'm the actual character it makes reading such an amazing experience and Tiffany has got that down to a T.

Playlist for the Dead by Michelle Falkoff

This book will have triggers around the subject of Suicide.

Sam and Hayden where inseparable, they loved the same games and felt it was them against the rest of high school, they were the 'outsiders'. Hayden got bullied everywhere he went, school, home he had no escape.

His parents looked at him with disdain this wasn't the son they wanted, they wanted a son without a learning difficulty, they wanted him to be perfect like his big brother Ryan. Ryan and his two friends would make Hayden's life hell.

After a fallout Sam goes to make up with Hayden but it's too late, Hayden had overdosed.

Sam feels so lonely without his best friend around, Hayden leaves Sam a disk with a playlist to help hime understand his desicion but makes Sam more confused than ever.

This book really makes sense of loneliness as a teen and the effects bullying can make and I feel it's important this is spoken out and known about. The story was hard to read but necessary, it helps to accept that someone is gone and brings up important issues throughout.

The book brings a certain clarity and when you finish the book you get a sense of relief like you went through all of the grief as well and now you feel okay again.

Very clever book.

Seed by Lisa Heathfield

I think maybe I should start by saying this book is an emotional book to read. There are hints to sexual abuse in the book but as I said just hints.


So the book is about a girl called Pearl who has lived her whole life in this place called seed . they belive that mother nature is the way, the ladies when they have there once a month mother nature call get pregnant to keep the cycle going whether they like it or not.


Pearl only feels happiness at seed she never sees the bad until a 'outsider' shows the true nature of Papa 'S Seeds group leader. Things go from bad to worse but can Pearl see the truth?.

So this was an emotional book to read because of how shut away Pearl is and how sad it is. But I feel like I have grown stronger having read Seed. I The book was amazingly written and I cannot fault the book in its entirety.

Truly amazing.
